A Letter from Joe  |  About Us

I'm Joe Ponzio, founder of Ponzio Capital, managing partner of the Ponzio Investors Funds, and author of F Wall Street — the book and the blog. If it sounds like I have a lot going on, I can assure you of this: they are all interrelated, and they all revolve around my pursuit of long-term growth at above-market rates through concentrated value investing.

After nearly eight years of running The Meridian Business Group — an investment and financial planning firm I co-founded in 2002 — I left to form Ponzio Capital, a registered investment advisory firm focused only on managing portfolios in pursuit of long-term growth. At Ponzio Capital, we offer no other services.

(That's why you'll see a short performance track record on the home page — technically, Ponzio Capital has only been around since December of 2009, though I've been doing this for quite a while.)

I built Ponzio Capital as the exact firm where I would want my money, if our roles were reversed:

  • accountability — my money is invested right along side yours, in the same securities at the same prices. If you lose money, not only do I make less or nothing, but my family also loses money. So...my income and my net worth is on the line with every security I choose to buy, hold, sell, or pass on for my clients.
  • we never work on commission — whenever possible, we work on a performance-only basis. When we can't work on a performance-only basis, we charge a quarterly management fee of 0.25% of the account value, which includes all trading and custody fees. As the account grows, our fee grows; if you lose money, we make less.
  • we focus on the long-term — I will invest my money for the rest of my life (hopefully, many decades); so, I don't care where the market trades six months from now.
  • quarterly letters — each quarter, I write a letter to clients explaining my thoughts on various investments, with the goal being that you are as comfortable with your investments as I am choosing them for you.
  • access to the manager — though I have staff to help me with preliminary research and administrative tasks, I am the one making all of the investment decisions; so, I'm the guy to buy a beer for when you're happy, and I'm the guy to yell at when you're mad. And you can — when you call or e-mail, I promise to personally get back to you quickly. (We don't typically answer the phones because we do not accept unsolicited phone calls; however, we are always happy to schedule phone calls with you.)
  • full transparency — clients have secure online access to their accounts, because it's important to know where your money is and how it's invested.

Though I'm all business when it comes to your (and my) money, I have a very casual and friendly relationship with clients. That's why we don't accept just anyone as a client — we work with an intimate group of long-term investors that I would consider friends.

If you are looking for steel, glass, power suits and the "Wall Street" way of doing things, Ponzio Capital is not for you. If, however, you are looking for low costs, a value investing strategy, and no nonsense, Ponzio Capital may be the right place for you. Why not give me a call and let's find out? It's got to be right for you and me; so...no pressure. No kidding.

I look forward to speaking with you,

Joe Ponzio
